MVA - James Madison Hwy./White Oak Rd.

 
January 26th 2008 - At 19:15 hours units from Rapidan and Orange were dispatched to an auto accident with entrapment involving a tractor trailer and small car in the area of Rt. 15 and White Oak Rd. Upon the arrival of medics, the single occupant of the car was unfortunately found to be deceased. The driver of the tractor trailer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.After extricating the victim from the car, assisting with traffic control and mopping up, units began marking in service at 22:39 hours.

MVA - 7139 James Madison Hwy.

 
December 8th 2007 - At 2359 hours, Rapidan Firefighters were dispatched to a one vehicle MVA in the area of 7139 James Madison Hwy. RE-10 arrived on scene to find the vehicle over an embankment with the driver out of the vehicle. The single occupant was transported to a local hospital after sustaining multiple bumps, bruises, and lacerations. After assisting with removal of the car, traffic control, etc, units began marking in service at 0123 hours.

MVA - 26255 Rapidan Rd.

 
November 30th 2007 - At 1854 hours, units from Rapidan were dispatched to a single vehicle MVA in the area of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church. The vehicle was off the road after having sheared off a telephone pole. The single occupant was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. After assisting with traffic control, etc, units marked back in service at 2015 hours.

MVA - 21414 Zachary Taylor Hwy.

 
November 20th 2007 - Units from Rapidan were dispatched to a one vehicle MVA on Zachary Taylor Hwy. at 1743 hours. The first in unit arrived to find the vehicle partially wrapped around a power pole with the driver entrapped in the vehicle. After a minor extrication process (a door "pop"), the driver was removed from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital. Units returned to service shortly thereafter at 1856 hours.

Structure Fire - 11178 Mitchell Rd.

 
November 4th 2007 - At 0735 hours, units from Rapidan, Culpeper, Reva, and Orange were dispatched to a house fire at 11178 Mitchell Rd. First in units arrived to find the single story SFD fully involved in fire, with extension to nearby detached garage. Firefighters implemented a defensive attack of the fire, which was brought under control after about three hours. After a final wet down by Culpeper's Truck 1, units began clearing from the scene at approximately 1100 hours.

MVA/LZ - Elmwood Farm Rd. and Rapidan Rd.

 
August 12th 2007 - At 1445 hours, units were dispatched to a two vehicle head-on MVA with confirmed entrapment on Rapidan Rd. OVFC crews handled the extrications as RVFD crews handled the two LZ's nearby. Two patients were airlifted to local hospitals and a third patient unfortunately succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Mulch Fire - 24043 Rapidan Rd.

 
June 17th 2007 - At 1340 hours, units were dispatched to a report of heavy smoke in the area of the Remington Mulch Company in Mitchells. First arriving units found an approximately 60'x60' mulch pile involved in fire. The fire was brought under control through the use of RE10's Class A foam within an hour and units began marking in service after performing minor mop-up operations.

Brush Fire - 12489 Twin Mountains Rd.
April 5th 2007 - In the late evening hours of April 5, units were dispatched to 12489 Twin Mountains Rd for a large brush fire in the woods. The fire was inaccessible by handlines due to its being located at the top of a mountain and due to trees, boulders, etc on the mountain. Therefore, firefighters from Rapidan and Culpeper employed the use of water cans, "Indian packs", and leaf blowers to bring the fire under control and to extinguish small spot fires. The fire scene was then turned over to the Virginia Department of Forestry, which remained on scene through the night to allow the remaining fire to burn itself out.

Structure Fire - 211 Harper Dr. (Orange County)
March 10th 2007 - In what will go down in the annals of RVFD history as the first call ever run by Rescue Engine 10, crews from Rapidan responded on the evening of March 10th to 211 Harper Drive in the town of Orange to assist crews from OVFC and GVFC on a working fire in a townhouse. With the fire knocked down upon their arrival, the Rapidan crews checked for extension in the adjoining townhouses. Light smoke was found in both adjoining townhouses and ventilation fans were set up in an effort to clear the smoke from the buildings. Units began marking in service after being on scene for approximately one hour.

Field Fire - 8300 Block General Winder Rd.

February 11th 2007 - At 1321 hours, units were dispatched to a large field fire in the 8300 block of General Winder Rd. Chief 1-2, first on scene, arrived to find about 5 acres of field, as well as a small shed, involved in fire. The wind fanned flames quickly spread the fire to a total of approximately 20 acres. Brush trucks and crews from Culpeper, Rapidan, Brandy Station, Reva, Salem, and Orange performed the fire attack as tankers from Rapidan, Brandy Station, Reva, and Salem staged nearby for water supply. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes and units remained on scene an additional 90 minutes performing mop-up, etc.

Structure Fire - 10348 Hook Rd. (Orange County)

February 5th 2007 - Crews from Rapidan were dispatched on the evening of February 5th to assist crews from Orange and Mine Run on a structure fire on Hook Rd. First arriving units from Orange found a working fire in the kitchen of the one story SFD, with extension to the living room and to the siding of side "David". Orange County crews extinguished the fire and all crews remained on scene for a while thereafter performing extensive overhaul.

Structure Fire - 24355 Hague Ln.

December 26th 2006 - At approximately 2116 hours, units were dispatched to a structure fire on Hague Lane, off of Algonquin Trail. Chief 10 arrived on scene to find the second floor of the two story farmhouse fully involved, with fire through the roof. Multiple tankers were staged on Algonquin Trail to provide Engine 10 and Pumper 1 with a water supply as firefighters from Rapidan, Culpeper, Reva, Brandy Station, Richardsville, and Little Fork battled the fire with a numerous handline exterior attack for the better portion of three plus hours.

Car Fire - 8291 Oak Park Rd. (Madison County)

December 9th 2006 - Units from Rapidan and Madison were dispatched to a car fire on Oak Park Rd. Upon their arrival, the Rapidan crew found a Ford Taurus fully involved with minor extension to a second vehicle, with both fires threatening a mobile home. The fires were quickly extinguished and units marked in service a short time later.

Structure Fire - 487 Old Forge Way (Madison County)

October 6th 2006 - At 1812 hours, units from Rapidan were dispatched to assist crews from Madison and Orange on a structure fire at 487 Old Forge Way in Madison County. First in units arrived to find the second floor of the two story home fully involved in fire. The Madison and Orange crews performed the initial knockdown of the fire and all crews remained on scene for approximately ninety minutes performing salvage and overhaul operations.

MVA - Rapidan Rd. and Zachary Taylor Hwy.
August 31st 2006 - Units were dispatched at 1933 hours to a two vehicle MVA at the intersection of Rt. 522 and Rt. 615 with one of the vehicles having been "t-boned". Fortunately there were no injuries. Patient refusals were obtained and units cleared from the scene at approximately 2100 hours after assisting with cleanup and traffic control.

Field Fire - 25033 Rapidan Rd.
August 28th 2006 - At 1523 hours, units from Rapidan, the Culpeper Volunteer Fire Department, the Orange Volunteer Fire Company, and the Virginia Department of Forestry were dispatched to a large field fire in the area of 25033 Rapidan Rd. The fire was brought under control after about two hours and units began marking in service a short time later.

Mulch Fire - 24043 Rapidan Rd.
August 17th 2006 - At approximately 2110 hours, units from Rapidan and the Culpeper Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a large mulch fire at the Remington Mulch Company in Mitchells. RVFD firefighters performed the initial fire attack through the use of Brush 10's forestry line and Engine 10's two crosslays. Shortly thereafter, Engine 10 was setup as water supply for CVFD's Truck 1. CVFD firefighters extinguished all remaining hot spots in the mulch pile and units returned to service after being on scene for approximately two hours.

MVA - 23112 Cedar Ridge Rd.

July 21st 2006 - While assisting Orange County units on the call at the Orange County Nursing Home, units from Rapidan were dispatched to a one vehicle MVA with the vehicle being over an embankment. There were no injuries or fire hazards and units cleared the scene 1/2 hour later.

Smoke in a Structure - 120 Dogwood Ln. (Orange County)
July 21st 2006 - At 2044 hours, units from Orange County and Rapidan were dispatched to a report of smoke in a structure at the Orange County Nursing Home. The crews from Rapidan assisted until they were released by command in order to respond to an MVA in their first due area.

Structure Fire - 15115 Happy Acre Ln.

July 20th 2006 - At 2301 hours, units were dispatched to a structure fire on Happy Acre Lane. Upon arrival, the house was found to be fully involved with extension to a nearby barn. A "surround and drown" attack was performed and the last units cleared the scene at approximately 0051 hours.

June 23rd 2006 - At 0524 hours, units were dispatched to an approximately 15 acre field fire on River Road in Orange County. More details coming soon...

MVA - Rapidan Rd. and Zachary Taylor Hwy.
June 3rd 2006 - At 0922 hours, units were dispatched to a two vehicle MVA with entrapment at the intersection of Rapidan Rd and Zachary Taylor Hwy. After a minor extrication process, the single patient was packaged and transported to a local hospital. Crews remained on scene for a short period of time performing cleanup. The scene was then turned over to law enforcement and Rapidan units cleared the scene shortly afterwards.

Structure Fire - Kendall Rd.
May 26th 2006 - Units from Rapidan assisted Orange County units on a working log cabin fire on Kendall Road in Orange County.

Mulch Fire - 24043 Rapidan Rd.
May 23rd 2006 - At 1908 hours, Chief 10 and Junior Firefighter Ben Wilson noticed large amounts of smoke coming from the area of the Remington Mulch Company located in Mitchells. Upon arrival, they discovered a large pile of mulch and stumps involved in fire. Chief 10 radioed dispatch and had Brush 10 and Engine 10 respond. The fire was quickly brought under control through the use of Brush 10's Class A foam and Engine 10's deck gun. Crews remained on scene for approximately an hour performing mop up and were placed in service shortly thereafter.

MVA and LZ - 8000 Block Rapidan Rd.
March 25th 2006 - Units from Orange and Rapidan were dispatched to an MVA with entrapment in the 8000 block of Rapidan Rd. Crews from Orange handled the extrication and Orange EMS transported the patient to a waiting helicopter LZ which was handled by Rapidan Wagon 10's crew.

Brush Fire - Rapidan Rd. and Willhoite Lane
March 19th 2006 - At 1630 hours units were dispatched to a brush fire in the area of Rapidan Rd and Willhoite Ln. Crews from Rapidan Brush 10 and Brandy Station SERV 2 performed the fire attack while Engine 10 staged nearby for water supply.

MVA - Rapidan Rd. and Mitchell Rd.
January 13th 2006 - At 1130 hours, units from Rapidan and a Culpeper County Medic unit were dispatched to the intersection of Rapidan Road and Mitchell Road for a reported dump truck off the road into a structure. The medic unit was placed in service upon arrival as there were no injuries involved. The Rapidan crew remained on scene for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes performing clean up and traffic control. The scene was turned over to law enforcement and crews from Rapidan were placed in service at approximately 1245 hours.

Structure Fire - Landrum Lane (Orange County)
December 9th 2005 - Crews from Orange, Gordonsville, Mine Run, Rapidan, OCSO, and COFE were dispatched to Landrum Lane for a reported structure fire. The initial dispatch reported a structure fire with flames visible from behind the residence. First arriving officer Chief 23 found a single family residential fully involved. Engine 23 layed a supply line and handled the initial fire attack. Due to heavy fire conditions an exterior attack was implemented with crews stationed on Lahore Road for water supply. Crews from all responding departments had the fire under control after some time and remained on scene for several hours performing mop up.

MVA/LZ - Zachary Taylor Highway
 

 

March 26th 2005 - Members from Mine Run, Orange VFC, County of Orange Fire and EMS, RVFD, and OCRS were dispatched to Route 522 for a reported motor vehicle accident involving multiple cars. First in units found a 2 vehicle head on collision with entrapment. Initial crews assisted with extrication while MRFD set up a landing zone for 3 medivac helicopters. A total of 8 were injured and 4 of those were transported via helicopter.
